Is Argentina Now Key West's De Facto World Cup Team?
As the 2026 Summer of Sports continues towards its spectacular finale, Argentina pulled off yet another unbelievable U-turn as they roared back in the final 13 minutes of their FIFA World Cup match against Egypt to score three goals and secure a spot in the quarterfinals. This puts them one step closer to defending their title as World Champions.
On Duval, Viva Argentinian Steakhouse has become the unofficial – but pretty official – headquarters for Argentina fans and lovers of "the beautiful game." With the USA blown out of contention in their match against Belgium, it raises the question of who will islanders get behind for the remaining weeks of the tournament?
For many, including Viva co-owner Alfredo Gimenez in the video below, the answer is Argentina.
As he put it, he and many Argentinian fans believe they have a chance at becoming back to back champions but acknowledged how challenging of a World Cup this continues to be with stiff competition ahead.
Of course, the island will still see support for some of the remaining teams like England, Spain, France, and interestingly Norway, but the sea of striped light blue fans is expected to put on quite the show.
